Every few years you come across an artist, and you wonder where the hell you've been. By way of Jackson, Mississippi, Los Angeles Rapper Rene Brown is one of the dopest MC’s you’ve never heard. Her love for rapping began at the young age of 10. Growing up with a single mother of four and one of the only mixed kids in the neighborhood, Rene found herself constantly fighting to defend her identity in a city where racism was blatant. She would lock herself in a room and listen to Tupac, DMX, and Eminem, while turning her anger into poems.
When Rene moved to Los Angeles at 15, trouble had no problem finding her. She quickly made the decision to join the military, but even that didn’t stop her from her first love, music. Rene recorded her very first track titled “Home” through a Skype headpiece and her laptop while being deployed in Afghanistan.
She began releasing tracks one by one on her MySpace, continuing to the now more popular Soundcloud, which garnered attention from all sorts of listeners. One of them being TDE’s very own Top Dawg. He offered her a slot on the Oxymoron Tour, where she made her biggest impression with fans all over the world. Since then, Rene Brown has released her debut EP “Keep To Myself”. The diverse, yet cohesive body of work is Rene Brown’s first official release, and certainly won’t be her last. You can expect relentless heat from this passionate MC.
